Urban Education (M.A.) Teaching and Learning Urban Schools Specialization for Alternate Route Completers

Urban Education (M.A.) with a specialization in:

  • Teaching & Learning in Urban Schools for New Pathways (NPTNJ) and NJCU P-3 Specialized Alternate Route Completers

Admission requirements:

  • A completed graduate application form, including a $55 non-refundable application fee
  • Successful completion of the New Pathways to Teaching in Â鶹´«Ã½ program or the P-3 Specialized Alternate Route program (24 credits)
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Official transcripts from all previous U.S. colleges attended or official  course-by-course evaluation of any foreign transcripts*
  • Two (2) professional letters of recommendation
  • A copy of standard NJ teaching certification or evidence of pending NJ standard certification (a list of your certifications can be downloaded on )

Pre-requisites:

  • Must hold a NJ standard teaching certification in a content-based education area. Applicants may be conditionally admitted with evidence of a pending NJ standard teaching certification.  Endorsements such as World Languages (Spanish, etc.), LDTC, TOSD or Reading Specialist do not count as content-based certification.

*Note: NJCU does not evaluate international transcripts. In lieu of a transcript, applicants with a non-U.S. degree need to submit a course-by-course evaluation from a  that includes U.S. bachelor’s degree equivalency information for their coursework.

International Applicants: This program is not currently available to international students seeking an F-1 student visa.
